The Predator series started with casual beginnings. The idea that would eventually become the first film was actually a massive inside joke among the film industry of Hollywood. After Rocky IV, industry members joked that Rocky would have to fight an alien next. The idea started evolving over time, and a script was finally produced about a similar premise. Even James Cameron himself, director of Aliens, contributed to the creature's eventual design. The first Predator film has become a dominant icon of the 1980's action genre. While action star Arnold Schwarzenegger was the lead in the first, Danny Glover starred in its sequel which came out in 1990. And the most recent entry came out as recently as 2010. There may be only three films in the series so far, but the Predator creature has become a popular cultural icon of both science fiction and action film in general.

They may not be the most dramatically deep films out there, but they are certainly entertaining. And most of all, these films have created a completely original creature that has risen above just a niche crowd; it has gone beyond that to terrify millions of moviegoers and gamers alike. It is also the only creature to give the almighty Alien a run for its money.
