Howdy, folks, and welcome back. It's been a long time—more than three years, in fact—since a staffer last dragged himself, broken and bleeding, through the wastelands of mapping to bring you only the finest the dark archives have to offer. Well, sort of, only nowadays there aren't really any new maps, just old, sad ones that've been put out to pasture, but damned if I'm not gonna review them anyway. And, because I have to find some excuse to do my job, starting today, I will be reviewing the Ultimate Map Pack 2. In its entirety.

I keep a Colt .45 in my desk at the office, in case I finally lose it. Today I took it out and stared thoughtfully at it until the security guys took it away. I wonder if I'll get it back before the weekend.

It wouldn't be Bob and Progg if it wasn't fashionably late! We apologize it's been so long but most of the staff as been either gone on vacation or busy so we couldn't coordinate it. But, as I always say, the important fact is that it's here now! So, enjoy:

Greetings OutpostAvPers! As you should all know, there is a brand new Predator movie out in theaters right now. You all have probably seen it, but if you haven't yet (or just looking for a good read regardless) then check out OutpostAvP's official reviews of the movie. We decided to do counter viewpoints for this movie, having one positive and one negative review. SiL has written his take for the negative side while I have written the positive review. Either way, you get some good takes on the movie which will give you a great idea what kind of movie it is!

Anyway, enjoy:

...and pigs to learn to fly by year's end.

Amazingly, patch 5 EXISTS.

The following notes are the provisional release details of PC patch 5. This is currently scheduled for release early next week (28th June onwards) assuming QA approval.

Please note that once Patch 5 goes live, all dedicated servers will need to update to the new version before they can be played on.

New Features
• Enabled XP gain, leaderboard updates and associated achievements and skin unlocks for non-ranked games as well as Ranked Matches. Now the differences between ranked and unranked games is that in Ranked Matches, skill-based matchmaking, team balancing and other Ranked Match associated rules are enforced and in Player matches they are not. You are now unable to have a game that does not update the leaderboards, or award XP.
• Major overhaul of low-level networking code for player-hosted (i.e. not Dedicated Server) games in order to improve connection stability and pings.

Bug Fixes
• Prevented runaway memory consumption under D3D11 if an FMV is playing when you lock (ctrl-alt-del - "lock computer") your machine with an NVIDIA card.
• Several "groups" issues have been fixed, including a reported issue with Group leaders causing group members to disconnect from Games if they leave and then join another Server.
• The spawning system has been tweaked, so that players will have a reduced chance of spawning very close to other (enemy) players.
• Server start up crash which occurred on Win 7 32bit Home Premium has been fixed.
• Several Server stability issues have been fixed

Hit the jump for the rest of the shenanigans. News thanks to Harrison, our man on the inside.

Look for Aliens: Colonial Marines Next Week at E3 Print E-mail

Have you had an itch for more gaming goodness from the franchise since the release of Rebellion's "Aliens vs. Predator"? Well, don't fret, because it appears that "Aliens: Colonial Marines" will be appearing at E3 in just a few days. Just a reminder, "Borderlands" developer Gearbox is behind this title so that's reason enough to get excited.

What's that smell...OH SHIII-

From Segabits

As I recall, Sharky predicted that the next Aliens game would be at E3. Well, seems he was right. It’s just been confirmed by GameSpot’s E3 Showfloor map that the game, along with Valkyria Chronicles 2, will indeed be available at SEGA’s booth.

Anyway, be sure to tune in to E3 and keep an eye out for this game. Gearbox has undoubtedly been putting full effort in this title after the release of "Borderlands", so they probably have some good stuff to show. I'll be on top of E3 so you don't need to worry about missing it, you can get all your "Aliens: Colonial Marines" news right here next week!
